Registered Mental Nurse (RMN)
BSc (Hons) Community Nursing: Mental Health
David trained and qualified as a Registered Mental Nurse in the 1980’s gaining valuable experience in a wide variety of NHS mental health settings.
He specialised in ‘older people’s services’ in the 1990’s and led a community mental health team which involved assessing, implementing and evaluating care for patients diagnosed with long-term conditions such as dementia. This placed much emphasis on comprehensive initial assessments, incorporating specialist assessment tools such as clinical rating scales, into his everyday working practice.
Between 1999 and 2006 David was appointed as a Senior Nurse for Research and Governance which involved establishing, coordinating and monitoring all clinical research and clinical audit activities across a large NHS Mental Health Trust. At this time, David was also employed as a visiting Lecturer at Northumbria University where he taught research ethics and risk management in mental health services. He also provided specialist mental health input for a Local Research Ethics Committee between 2001 and 2011.
Since 2011 David has worked for the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) as a general Court of Protection Visitor. This role includes carrying out mental capacity assessments, financial assessments and providing support to Clients, their families and carers in relation to Deputyships and LPA’s.
