AIVuk was formed in February 2008, following the implementation
of the Mental Capacity Act 2005. It comprises a
nationwide group of current and ex Court of Protection Visitors
who formed an alliance to work with private clients and their families,
solicitors, Deputies and Attorneys in upholding and safeguarding
best interests.
AIVuk
members, currently located in all areas of England and Wales, are
able to pool their extensive knowledge and resources to provide
expertise in working with elderly and disabled people. They hold
a range of professional qualifications and include Social Workers
and nurses. They have a comprehensive knowledge of Court of Protection
and Office of the Public Guardian procedures and of the health and
social welfare context of clients.
Visitors
carry out a number of tasks, from individual case management of
clients through to general support with Court of Protection and
Office of the Public Guardian matters. They work with professional
and lay Deputies. They offer general health and social welfare support
as added value to the Deputy role. They are qualified to provide
mental capacity assessments, Skills Based Certificates for Lasting
Powers of Attorney and are available to serve Notices. For busy
professional Deputies they can provide a fee paid visits service
to a set, but adaptable, format, geared to providing the information
needed when accounting to the Office of the Public Guardian.
To
private clients, Visitors offer a wide range of services, from short
term general advice and support through to more complex and long
term advocacy and case management.
AIVuk
members are contracted to local authorities to carry out visits
on their behalf thus providing a completely independent overview
of a client’s wellbeing (see our Local Authority page).
All
AIVuk members have up to date Criminal Records Bureau checks and
carry full professional indemnity insurance. They work to their
own Ethical Code with high standards of professionalism and commitment.
